About the position

The Pre-Op/PACU Registered Nurse at LOS Orthopaedic and Spine Surgery Center is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients in the preoperative and immediate postoperative phases. This role involves assessing and documenting patient status, monitoring for complications, and ensuring that patients receive appropriate care related to their surgical conditions and anesthesia. The nurse will also educate patients about their procedures and rights, maintain safety standards, and collaborate with the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform nursing care for patients in the preoperative and PACU phases.
  • Assess and document patient's status upon arrival and throughout their stay.
  • Monitor patients and inform the surgeon or anesthesiologist of any complications.
  • Provide preoperative instruction and explain patient rights and responsibilities.
  • Conduct thorough preoperative patient assessments and ensure all necessary testing is completed.
  • Document postoperative care according to policy and procedure.
  • Develop a plan of care based on assessment data and review postoperative instructions with patients and families.
  • Participate in facility committees and quality improvement activities.
  • Adhere to safety policies and report any safety violations or hazards.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Active RN license in Louisiana
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification
  • Strong ethical and moral character references
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal English
  • Cooperative work attitude towards co-employees and patients
  • Ability to make timely decisions and solve problems
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Physical stamina for extended working hours

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum 2 years recent Pre-op/PACU or critical care experience
  • Experience with ACS
  • Computer literacy
