About the position
As a Pre-Authorization Specialist at The Iowa Clinic, your day will start with a morning arrival, ensuring you work standard clinic hours without the need for night shifts. Your primary responsibility will be to obtain insurance pre-authorization for various medical procedures, including GI procedures, imaging exams, injections, and specialty medication prescriptions. You will gather the necessary details required by insurance providers, submit requests for pre-authorization, and follow up to ensure timely approvals for scheduled procedures. Additionally, you will complete FMLA paperwork for patients, striving to create a positive experience with each interaction. Your day will conclude in the evening, allowing for a balanced work-life schedule.
Responsibilities
- Obtain insurance pre-authorization for GI procedures, imaging exams, injections, and specialty medication prescriptions.
- Gather necessary details required by insurance providers for pre-authorization.
- Submit pre-authorization requests and follow up for timely approvals.
- Complete FMLA paperwork for patients.
- Create a positive experience with each patient interaction.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Highly organized.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Medical terminology knowledge necessary.
- Medical billing/coding experience or pre-authorization experience preferred.
- Highly motivated to work in a healthcare setting.
