About the position

As a Power System Studies Engineer at Jacobs, you will play a crucial role in supporting and leading projects related to power system modeling and analysis, particularly in the context of renewable energy generation. This position involves collaboration with regional and global teams to deliver impactful solutions that contribute to the energy transition and decarbonization efforts. You will engage with various clients, including renewable developers and utilities, to ensure compliance with interconnection requirements and industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform power system studies (internal to the plant) including load flow, short circuit, insulation coordination, TOV, arc flash, and harmonics.
  • Perform power system studies (external to the plant) related to interconnection to ensure compliance with interconnection requirements as well as NERC standards.
  • Support system studies project(s) throughout the whole lifecycle from technical bid/proposal to execution, reports, client meetings/presentations, to close-out.
  • Contribute to the delivery of projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Work closely with team members across North America and globally.
  • Engage with different types of customers including renewable developers, utilities, and ISOs/RTOs.
  • Participate in ISO/RTO stakeholder forums and other technical committees such as IEEE or CIGRE.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 4 years of direct experience with system studies on utility scale renewable projects.
  • Experience with power system studies using PSS/E, ETAP, and PSCAD or other equivalents.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards such as IEC, IEEE, and CIGRE.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical capabilities with a focus on achieving results.
  • Team player with great interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within North America.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with systems studies in California and/or WECC.
  • Experience with offshore wind and HVDC.
  • Knowledge of programming languages to streamline studies using Python.
  • Professional Engineer (PE or PEng) License.
