About the position

The position involves operating, maintaining, testing, monitoring, adjusting, and documenting the energy generation and distribution system connected to the Power Plant. The role is crucial for providing electricity, steam, and hot water to the hospital complex, ensuring environmental and process needs are met. Additionally, the position includes security duties such as maintaining and cleaning Brattleboro Retreat vehicles, snow removal, and assisting in testing the fire alarm system.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, monitor, adjust, and document all power plant equipment and systems according to manufacturer's recommendations and regulations.
  • Perform assigned preventative maintenance duties to ensure efficient operation of the physical plant.
  • Conduct annual maintenance on boilers, chillers, and auxiliaries.
  • Repair power plant structure, equipment, and systems as required.
  • Maintain understanding of emergency job procedures and assist with documentation.
  • Provide security coverage as needed, including securing doors and responding to security requests.
  • Generate material lists and recommend or request purchases for small projects.
  • Maintain proper inventory levels of supplies and order replacements as necessary.
  • Perform minor maintenance and preventative maintenance work on buildings.
  • Assist with snow and ice control.
  • Inspect and maintain tools, ensuring they are in good working condition and safe to use.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and document all forms and records pertaining to JCAHO.
  • Pick up sharps and other medical waste from the Clinic and prepare it for shipping.
  • Assist in testing of fire alarm systems.
  • Check and respond to emails at the beginning of the shift.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or four years approved on-the-job training.
  • Must hold or be eligible for a fourth class engineer license in accordance with N.I.U.L.P.E. qualifications.
  • Possess a current driver's license with a safe and clean driving record for the past three years.
  • Flexibility to cover different shifts as required for 24/7 coverage in Power Plant and Security division.
  • Ability to enter boiler and other pressure vessel manholes preferred.
  • Must be able to work rotating weekends.
