About the position

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Power Generation Mechanical Engineering Lead for our office in Seattle, WA. The following office locations will also be considered: Atlanta, GA, Houston, TX, Boston, MA, Boulder, CO, Chicago, IL, New York, NY and San Francisco, CA. The candidate will be involved in projects with our Energy Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with clients to design thermal power generation facilities across the USA
  • Work with cross disciplinary teams to provide complete detailed designs, as well as Owner's Engineer services
  • Produce or check GT Pro models for project optimization
  • Assess facility performance based on technology and climate
  • Mentor junior to intermediate colleagues and review work produced by team members
  • Process development with the goal of continuously improving design deliverables
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or closely related discipline
  • 10+ years of experience in the thermal power generation industry
  • Pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach to problem solving
  • Affinity for improving workflow processes; the ability to balance standardization while increasing processes efficiency and quality
  • Ability to manage and mentor junior staff and support technical development
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
  • Demonstrated strong competence in analytical techniques and modeling in solving complex technical problems
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
  • Sound decision-making, strategic thinking, and creative business development capabilities within energy practice
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on clients and/or sector activities
  • Strong professional work ethic
  • Effective communication and inter-personal skills for client and team interactions
  • Eager to work and guide fellow team members
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, OneNote)
  • Independently plan work schedule and effectively manage individual responsibilities and projects with quick turn-around times
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Nice-to-haves
