About The Position

This position represents the third level within the Power Engineering Technologist classification and reports directly to Operational Leadership. You will provide advanced technical expertise in analyzing complex design alternatives for power distribution projects. Individuals in this role are expected to demonstrate extensive knowledge of customer design workflows, procedures, and technical practices within the client's areas of specialization. In addition, the position contributes to team development by providing technical guidance, mentoring, and support to less experienced team members. This role requires regular on-site attendance and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (Certain client projects or contractual requirements may require an Associate degree from a two - year college or technical school).
  • 3-5 years of experience in utility power distribution engineering or related craft work.
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle suitable for business use (mileage reimbursement may apply)

Responsibilities

  • Interpret all applicable codes and regulations and independently develop complex overhead and underground distribution designs across multiple geographic areas. Project types may include, but are not limited to, commercial and residential systems, downtown power infrastructure, extra facility projects, high-profile initiatives, highway relocation projects, and other work requiring the highest levels of reliability and quality.
  • Develop detailed, accurate, and cost-effective project and job packages—including material lists, requisitions, site layouts, and construction drawings—to ensure maximum safety, reliability, and quality across diverse and complex project types.
  • Collaborate closely with construction teams, clients, and customers to resolve design and job-site challenges, while creating and managing work requests and clearly communicating schedules, feasibility, and expectations using current work management tools.
  • Evaluate equipment loading, power quality considerations, and reliability requirements to deliver safe, compliant, and technically sound solutions for complex power distribution systems.
  • Perform field assessments to validate system conditions and customer needs, while building and maintaining strong internal and external relationships that support company and client objectives.
  • Support the training and development of less experienced team members, providing advanced technical guidance while consistently demonstrating and promoting full adherence to safety policies and procedures; perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Expected participation in storm restoration activities as needed.
