About the position

The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator (PI) Deshpande in the department of Physics and Astronomy. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. The successful candidates will work on the parity-violating electron scattering (PVES) program at Jefferson Laboratory (JLab), and Simulation studies & R&D for the future Electron Ion Collider (EIC). Responsibilities

  • Development of MOLLER GEM detector prototypes and construction chambers, relevant simulations, and participation in engineering design efforts for various MOLLER subsystems, especially the toroidal spectrometer, construction and commissioning of the MOLLER detector at Jefferson Lab
  • Development of the SOLID software framework, tracking algorithms, DAQ subsystem and various detector R&D projects
  • Participation in the electron beam polarimetry effort at Jlab Hall-A, both in the Compton and Moller polarimeter subgroups
  • Other duties as assigned, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings

Requirements

  • Doctoral Degree (foreign equivalent degree) in Experimental Nuclear or Particle Physics or closely related field or foreign equivalent degree in hand by May 31, 2025

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of high energy QCD through experiments at Jefferson Lab, RHIC or LHC and work on EIC/ePIC detector activities
