About the position

The Post Doctoral Fellow position at the Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology and Forest Science at Clemson University focuses on implementing the Climate Smart Commodities program. This role involves measuring carbon sequestration in managed forests and analyzing data to assess the impact of climate smart practices. The fellow will work closely with a collaborative team and have access to extensive existing data to facilitate immediate research and publication opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Help design and implement stand scale Measurement, Monitoring Reporting and Verification (MMRV) of operational Climate Smart Forestry projects in South Carolina using traditional forestry methods and eddy covariance tower observations
  • Analyze eddy covariance data and publish manuscripts that quantify how Climate Smart Forestry management practices affect carbon sequestration at the stand scale
  • Travel to local and regional field sites for data collection
  • Publish results in peer reviewed journals
  • Develop project reports
  • Assist with supervising and mentoring the Climate Smart Forestry MMRV team

Requirements

  • PhD in forestry, environmental science, biometeorology, or a related field
  • Experience with eddy covariance data analysis
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Willingness to relocate to South Carolina

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with climate smart forestry practices
  • Familiarity with loblolly and longleaf pine ecosystems
  • Knowledge of statistical software for data analysis
