About The Position

Responsible for carrying out the contractual requirements related to post delivery service contractual provisions during the service period for vessels constructed by Austal USA. Manages repair efforts in offsite locations and will be expected to travel to destinations in an effort to support the vessel during its post delivery service period (warranty). Will be the primary point of contact for our customers to address contractual issues during the vessel post-delivery contract service period. Potential offsite travel is estimated at 75-80%. Overseas travel is a significant possibility although NO TRAVEL to declared warzones is anticipated. Must be able to work more than 40+ hours a week. Some weekend work/Travel may be required. May require that the individual ride the ship on occasion while performing the duties of a Post Delivery Service Engineer III. Discerns between post delivery service (warranty) / non-post-delivery (non-warranty) issues and communicates with Project Manager as to appropriate course of action. Manages Austal/subcontracted production personnel in off- site locations. Supports meetings with customers (Navy Active duty and/or MSC). Manages off site repairs with Subcontractors. Works with Austal SCM personnel for parts support. Liaises with Austal Engineering on technical issues. Works with Test and Activation and Ships Management to understand issues related to the hull under post delivery service contract (warranty). Attends Final Contract Trials as the Warranty Representative. Assumes duties of the Projects Manager when not available. Ensures that Customer Satisfaction remains a priority. Exercises subcontracting authority to hire and manage the performance of subcontractors/vendors in the execution of warranty provisions. Complies with Austal’s employee handbook general guidelines, company procedures and policies.

Requirements

  • Six (6) years shipyard experience or eight (8) years maritime experience.
  • Three (3) years supervisory experience, or, two (2) years as a Post Delivery Service Engineer II (Warranty Engineer II).
  • Four (4)+ years knowledge of shipyard practices and operational principles of the shipbuilding process.
  • Ability to communicate and speak effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend ship construction drawings, schematics, technical manuals and equipment operational procedures/information.
  • Fundamental technical understanding of ships propulsion systems, electrical power generation and auxiliaries related to marine vessels.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience with large propulsion diesels (5,000HP+) and propulsion gas turbine engines (20,000HP+).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and personnel under very visible oversight.
  • Ability to work under pressure to place the vessel back into operation as quickly as possible.
  • Desire and ability to speak in public and to deliver information to the customer and Austal USA.
  • Must be able to obtain and hold a “Secret” security clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and hold a “TWIC” clearance granted by TSA.
  • 18 years or older at time of application.
  • Able to provide proof of US Person status (permanent resident or citizen).
  • No felony convictions of theft/deception or violent crimes within seven years from disposition date.
  • No felony convictions of drug crimes within three years from disposition date.
  • Willing to submit to a drug screen.
  • Willing to submit to a background check.
  • Must be able to use the Microsoft Office programs as well as other Austal systems used in the management of our shipbuilding contracts.
  • Must be able to read and understand contractual documentation and be able to speak to those issues with our contracts department.
