About the position

The Port Engineer will develop and oversee the implementation of vessel routine preventative maintenance programs in accordance with Company requirements and regulatory standards to improve vessel safety and efficiency. In addition, the Port Engineer shall in cooperation with and in support of fleet operations managers, vessel group managers and staff department managers, administer and audit fleet technical documentation, fleet certification, regulatory compliance and the performance of fleet engineering personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Performs site and vessel visits of the stack fleet and assists crews with maintenance activities in accordance with vessel preservation plan.
  • Assists where needed with project planning and implementation.
  • Reviews maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities and programs.
  • Inspects vessel equipment and its documentation for conformance with technical and performance standards.
  • Plans, develops, and implements new methods and procedures designed to reduce vessel maintenance and repair costs, by utilization of internal labor and material resources.
  • Insures by audit and field inspection fleet personnel adherence to regular maintenance and repair program work schedules.
  • Trains vessels engineer department personnel as directed by Director of Operations.
  • Fleet operations support functions shall include, but not be limited to, responding to requests from vessel personnel, vessel group managers, the maintenance and engineering departments for technical verification and/or documentation of vessel technical characteristics and capabilities.
  • In conjunction with vessel engineers, identify and plan shipyard/ major maintenance events, and in conjunction with the appointed shipyard repair superintendent audit of shipyard/ major maintenance budget preparation and post event analysis.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • One-year certificate from college or technical school and/or 8 to 10 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to calculate figures in amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Working knowledge of basic spreadsheet software and word processing software.
  • Ability to get along well with others.
  • Valid driver's license and passport required.
  • U.S. Coast Guard Marine license for deck or engine room watch standing responsibilities desired.

Benefits

  • Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am until 5:00pm.
  • Some overtime, work related travel (GOM/East Coast/West Coast) and weekend work may be required, subject to company operational requirements.
