About the position

Under the supervision of the Coordinator for College and Career Readiness, the Adjunct Instructor is primarily responsible for providing quality instruction to the students at the College and Career Readiness program at Western Piedmont Community College. In addition to the regular responsibilities of classroom teaching, instructors should demonstrate concern for their own professional growth, for the field of Basic Skills, for the education profession in general, and for the progress and well-being of the entire college community.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain quality instruction that is grounded in research, standards-based, contextualized, and technology rich.
  • Develop lesson plans aligned to the College and Career Readiness standards.
  • Maintain student attendance, LEIS forms and other necessary paperwork as assigned.
  • Attend training or meetings as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator for College and Career Readiness.

Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Credential/Certification in either K-12, Special Education, Adult Education, TESOL, or another recognized credential within six months of employment.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education with a concentration in a Basic Skills related subject area.
  • Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree in Education with a concentration in one of the Adult Education Content Standards or a Basic Skills related subject area.
  • Certification from an accredited educational institution in an instructional area.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three years' classroom teaching experience.
