About the position

The Bellevue Police Department is seeking candidates for the position of Police Officer. This role is responsible for performing general police services, including the protection of lives and property, enforcement of laws, investigation of crimes, and providing assistance to the public. Officers will exercise a high degree of independence and initiative while performing their duties in accordance with Department policies and procedures, City Ordinances, and State Laws.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas of the City on foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle to maintain general order and peace.
• Respond to crimes in progress, accidents, natural disasters, fires, citizen complaints, and other calls for assistance.
• Conduct security checks in designated patrol areas of businesses, residences, parks, and other public properties.
• Take appropriate action at emergency, accident, and crime scenes; identify, gather, and secure evidence; aid victims or injured persons; identify and interview victims, witnesses, and suspects; photograph, sketch, or draw diagrams of the scenes.
• Prepare accurate and timely incident and other reports as needed.
• Assist and cooperate with Department specialists and other law enforcement personnel and agencies as needed.
• Identify, pursue, and arrest suspects and perpetrators of criminal acts; book arrestees/prisoners.
• Conduct searches of persons, vehicles, residences, or open spaces.
• Serve warrants.
• Carry, maintain, and use firearms or other assigned law enforcement equipment, such as batons, chemical deterrents, and tasers.
• Render credible testimony in a court of law.
• Render aid as a first responder to accident victims and other persons requiring first aid for physical injuries or illness.
• Investigate criminal and non-criminal incidents, including collection, preservation, and analysis of evidence; prepare related investigative and other reports.
• Work with attorneys and other law enforcement personnel to prepare court cases.
• Perform assignments in any Division as directed.
• Provide citizens of the City with assistance as needed.
• Perform other duties as regularly assigned to Bellevue Police Officers.

Requirements

• Must be at least twenty-one years of age.
• Must be a citizen of the United States.
• Must possess a standard high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma (GED).
• Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license and maintain it throughout the course of employment.
• Ability to read, write, and understand the English language at the eleventh grade level, as demonstrated by the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE).
• Must possess good character, as determined by a thorough background investigation.
• Certification through the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center as a Nebraska law enforcement Officer within one year of employment.

Benefits

• Salary range: $32.61 - $46.50 hourly ($67,828 - $96,720 yearly)
