About the position

The City of Boynton Beach is seeking certified Police Officers to maintain peace and safety, protect life and property, and promote community engagement within a diverse municipality of approximately 75,000 residents. Officers will be responsible for patrolling assigned areas, responding to emergencies, investigating crimes, and engaging in community policing. This role requires physical and mental fitness, adherence to city and police department policies, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned areas to maintain peace and safety.
  • Respond to emergency calls and resolve conflicts.
  • Engage in community policing and community relations.
  • Investigate crimes and render medical assistance as needed.
  • Write reports using software and mobile data computers.
  • Handle crises or stressful situations involving various populations.
  • Testify in court and enforce Florida State laws and City Ordinances.
  • Participate in specialized units after gaining patrol experience.

Requirements

  • Must be a United States citizen (U.S. born or naturalized).
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Florida Department of Law Enforcement Certification is necessary.
  • Must be at least 19 years of age at the time of application.
  • Possess or be eligible to obtain a valid Florida driver's license within seven days of hire.
  • Successfully complete hiring process assessments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completed at least sixty college credit hours toward a two-year degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • At least 21 years of age at the time of hire.
  • One year of experience establishing and maintaining positive relationships with others.
  • Fluency in a language other than English, especially Spanish, French Creole, or Portuguese.
