About The Position

Supervises a Division or Divisions and has the full responsibility for the efficient and successful operations of the Division (s). Assists in the planning, organizing, coordinating and directing of the personnel and the resources of the department toward achieving the goals of security, peace and well being. Reviews all reports generated by the Division(s) and maintains an awareness of the overall activity of the department. Assists in the research, planning, coordination, inspection, and budgetary process of the department. As the Division Commander, evaluates the performance of subordinates and when necessary, recommends disciplinary action. Assigned to internal affairs investigations as required. Will be directly responsible for the following special functions: Training, CRU Team, DUI and other Contract Work, Building Maintenance, Equipment, Radio, Fleet, Comprehensive Emergency Management, Community Outreach.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in use of motor vehicle
  • Proficiency in use of department firearm(s)
  • Maintain skill in Arrest Control Techniques
  • Proficiency with department impact tools and other less lethal munitions as required
  • Must possess the physical skill and agility necessary to apprehend, detain and control a suspect
  • Must have good verbal communication skills
  • Must have good organizational skills
  • Must have good problem-solving skills
  • Essential knowledge of leadership skills and techniques
  • Requires a high school diploma
  • Possession of a Utah POST Basic Law Enforcement Officer Certification
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain an appropriate valid Utah driver's license
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, and climb
  • Exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards
  • Ability to travel to different sites and locations
  • Must successfully pass the department's physical fitness criteria
  • Candidates are encouraged to wear gym clothes throughout the assessment center process.
  • Physical Agility Test
  • Vertical Jump (minimum 16 inches)
  • Sit Ups (minimum 35 in one minute)
  • Push Ups (minimum 25, no time limit)
  • Run (1.5 miles in less than 15 minutes 54 seconds)
  • Psychological Evaluation
  • Oral Interview
  • Must successfully pass a background check
  • Must successfully pass a driving record check
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to those with three (3) years of supervisory experience.
