About The Position

This internship provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in law enforcement by supporting various departmental functions. The intern will engage in customer service, administrative tasks, evidence processing, community outreach, and crime analysis support. This role is designed to offer exposure to the daily operations of a police department and contribute to public safety initiatives.

Requirements

  • High School graduation or its equivalent
  • Must have a friendly disposition
  • Must be able to stay calm in stressful, fast-paced situations
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to be flexible and multitask
  • Responsible
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Valid Texas driver's license.

  • Experience in prior customer service preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional customer service by answering phones, greeting visitors, and directing citizens to appropriate resources or personnel.
  • Support the preparation and organization of criminal case files for submission to prosecuting authorities.
  • Perform traffic citation data entry and records management functions.
  • Participate in the processing, packaging, logging, storage, and auditing of property and evidence in accordance with department procedures.
  • Receive and document basic information for walk-in reports and citizen inquiries.
  • Compile and assist with monthly statistical and operational reports.
  • Support the planning, coordination, and participation in community engagement and crime prevention events.
  • Contribute to the department's social media and public information efforts as part of the community engagement strategy.
  • Assist with accreditation preparation activities, including organizing files and maintaining proofs of compliance.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for department training programs and special events.
  • Support crime analysis and intelligence functions through research, data review, information organization, and the identification of crime trends or patterns.
  • Attend supervisory meetings, City Council meetings, Citizen Advisory Board meetings, and other meetings as requested.
  • Support inventory management and organizational projects involving department equipment, supplies, and operational resources.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by supervisors.
