About the position

The Plumbing Specialist position at Lamar University involves servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing water, sewer, or gas distribution lines. The candidate will be responsible for repairing, replacing, and maintaining valves, fixtures, backflow prevention devices, and other associated equipment. Employees are expected to maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance while on duty and will work with other crafts, monitor contracted work, and provide training to subordinate employees. This essential position requires working as scheduled during emergencies or natural disasters under the direct supervision of the Utilities Manager in the Facilities Maintenance department.

Responsibilities

• Installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, and fittings throughout the campus.
• Keeping accurate records of work performed while maintaining inventory of plumbing supplies and ordering necessary materials.
• Diagnosing and repairing issues with plumbing systems, such as leaks, clogs, and faulty components.
• Ensuring all work complies with building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
• Providing excellent customer service by communicating effectively with staff, faculty, and students.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Able to obtain a Backflow Certification within 6 months of hire (depending on scheduling).
• 3-5 years of plumbing experience.
• Valid Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

• Plumbing License and or certification.
• 5 years of direct plumbing experience.
• Texas State Journeyman's license.
