About the position

This is skilled technical work at a journeyman level involving operating, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing: plumbing systems and components, steam and hot water boiler equipment, other gas fired equipment and fire protection systems. This includes systems in buildings as well as utility service: water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer and gas distribution systems.

Responsibilities

• Operate, troubleshoot, repair and install steam and hot water boilers, furnaces and associated equipment.
• Operate, troubleshoot, repair and install building plumbing systems, related equipment and utility services (gas, water, sewer).
• Interact with customers via phone and in person to coordinate work.
• Prepare work related documents (work orders, vouchers, reports, purchase request, etc.).
• Other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

• Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, formal training programs, or on-the-job training.
• Ability to troubleshoot, maintain and repair steam and hot water boilers and associated system equipment.
• Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions and to work from blueprints and sketches.
• Understanding and application of standard trade practices in performing work.
• Ability to prepare simple, clear and concise written description of work performed or required.
