About the position
The Medical Support Specialist at BioLife Plasma Services plays a crucial role in ensuring donor eligibility for plasma donation, managing donor adverse events, and providing medical support under the supervision of the Center Manager and Center Physician. This position is essential for maintaining safety and compliance within the plasma collection process, while also supporting the health and safety of employees. The role involves a combination of clinical responsibilities, customer service, and operational support in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Determine donor eligibility accurately and in a timely manner, including informed consent and medical history interview.
- Evaluate and manage donor reactions and follow SOPs for medical emergencies.
- Manage donor deferrals and notify donors of unsuitable test results as per SOPs.
- Initiate and investigate Post Donation Information (PDI).
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on medical or technical issues.
- Conduct pre-placement evaluations of new hires and maintain employee medical records.
- Administer first aid to employees as needed and act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized.
- Support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees.
- Greet donors and perform necessary health checks including pulse and blood pressure measurements.
- Provide exceptional customer service to donors and fellow employees.
Requirements
- Graduate of a recognized educational program.
- Minimum of two years in a clinical or hospital setting preferred.
