About The Position

Airgas is hiring for a Plant Operator (Shipper/Receiver) in Durham, NC. This role involves preparing and receiving shipments, ensuring compliance with US DOT regulations, and contributing to a safe work environment. Responsibilities include scraping, labeling, and painting cylinders, moving cylinders with carts or forklifts, loading and unloading trucks, matching receiving returns with paperwork, ensuring documentation matches cylinders, and supporting the team to ensure cylinders are presented neatly. The role also involves cylinder sorting, maintaining a clean work area, basic computer operations for data entry and training, and other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and comprehend Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Ability to coordinate efforts with multiple departments.
  • Aptitude for high precision work.
  • Ability to achieve HM 126 qualification
  • Ability to operate forklift and maintain forklift certifications.
  • Ability to Follow Directions, Make Decisions, Work in a team, and be Reliable.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum 1 year experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) or equivalent software.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to work all shifts; subject to all weather conditions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand; use hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • The associate must lift and or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Ideally, you bring a basic understanding of CFR 49
  • Familiarity with Special permits

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and receives shipments, including all required documentation for compliance to US DOT regulations
  • Contributes to a safe work environment by completing all job assignments according to Airgas SOPs.
  • Scraping, labeling and painting of cylinders
  • Moving of cylinders by usage of a cylinder cart and/ or forklift.
  • Loading and unloading of trucks within a supportive team setting
  • Matching up receiving returns with common carrier paperwork
  • Ensuring all documentation matches cylinders
  • Supporting the team to ensure cylinders go out in a neat and presentable condition
  • Cylinder sorting
  • Keeping a clean and orderly work area
  • Basic computer operations for data entry and training
  • Utilizing basic calculations
  • Other collaborative duties as assigned.
