About the position

The Plant Manager works to ensure that best practice manufacturing processes are created, implemented, and run efficiently. The Production Manager will oversee the daily activities of the NASL Fabrication department, ensuring that it meets or exceeds our safety, efficiency, and quality standards and goals. This leader will take responsibility to develop and maintain an effective and team-oriented culture driving results, our core values and growth. This position will demonstrate emotional intelligence and the ability to lead by example, to manage a fast-paced production team and environment.

Responsibilities

  • Daily execution of production throughput to schedules, problem solving and quickly resolving issues as they arise.
  • Lead, motivate, and support a large team within a time-sensitive and demanding environment, including career development plans for direct reports.
  • Evaluation of performance of production personnel (quality, efficiency, conduct, etc.).
  • Implement relevant KPI’s and manage data collection and posting of specific metrics to achieve productivity targets, reduce operational and inventory costs, eliminate errors, and deliver excellent internal and external customer service.
  • Identify and address key concerns that may impact production schedules.
  • Take an active role in factory production planning.
  • Maintain visibility and constant communication with other department managers, staff, and vendors to ensure proper operation of the business unit.
  • Track staffing requirements and providing leadership in recruiting, interviewing, one-on-one discussions, disciplinary actions, and supporting our annual reviews and goal setting processes.
  • Organizing relevant training sessions whether for quality, safety, product or equipment operation related.
  • Work with team members to ensure customer samples are completed to high and customer specific quality standards.
  • Provide solutions to customers specific needs via understanding their current situation and critical concerns via working with other departments and directly with customers during plant visits, executing tours, and product and customer development and onboarding.
  • Ensure output meets appropriate customer specific, industry, and NASL quality standards.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance lead to develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance protocols.
  • Partner with team members to complete and develop effective Corrective Actions (internally or externally driven) to combat quality deficiencies.
  • Train direct staff on specific quality requirements by customer and product.
  • Meet/exceed departmental quality goals.
  • Enforce health and safety precautions.
  • Assure proper training has been completed by current and future production staff to reduce the risk of accidents.
  • Assist and or lead accident investigations within the department.
  • Meet and/or exceed department safety goals.
  • Increase the efficiency of existing processes and procedures to enhance the company’s internal capacity.
  • Independently and as a partner with cross-functional teams analyze and improve tools and systems.
  • Estimating, negotiating and agreeing to budgets with managers.
  • Identify and implement new processes, equipment, automation, technology, etc. to increase throughput and decrease operational and inventory expense.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in operations management, business administration, or related field. Experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 6 years production experience with at least 3 years of leadership experience.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Competent in problem solving, team building, and decision making.
  • Is self-aware, resilient, optimistic, and open to change.
  • A positive and collaborative approach to others.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform and take proactive initiative in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Lean Manufacturing Proficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and accomplish tasks through cooperation and collaboration with others.
  • The ability to balance and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • The ability to communicate clearly using written and verbal communication.

Nice-to-haves

  • ERP Software experience – (Epicor E-10 is a plus).
  • Ability to successfully use basic office software applications (specifically MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook).
