About The Position

Beasley Forest Products is seeking a skilled and motivated Planer Tool Setter to join our Dry Sorter Department in Hazlehurst, GA. The Planer Tool Setter plays a critical role in maintaining planer mill efficiency, product quality, and operational uptime by setting, adjusting, changing, and maintaining planer knives, cutter heads, and related tooling. This position works closely with planer operators, maintenance personnel, and production supervisors to ensure lumber products meet customer specifications and quality standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to workplace safety in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Mechanical aptitude with experience using precision measuring tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret production specifications and measurements.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety practices.
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
  • Strict adherence to safety procedures and PPE requirements is mandatory.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred, but not required
  • Previous experience in a planer mill, sawmill, lumber manufacturing, or wood products facility.
  • Experience setting planer knives, cutter heads, or similar industrial tooling.
  • Knowledge of hardwood and softwood lumber manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with preventative maintenance programs and machine setup procedures.
  • Experience using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments.

Responsibilities

  • Set, align, and adjust planer knives, cutter heads, and tooling to achieve required lumber dimensions and surface quality.
  • Inspect tooling for wear, damage, and performance issues.
  • Remove, replace, sharpen, and maintain planer knives and cutting components as needed.
  • Verify tooling setups and make precision adjustments to maintain production tolerances.
  • Work with planer operators to troubleshoot quality and production issues.
  • Monitor finished lumber quality and assisted in correcting defects related to planer setup.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on planer tooling and related equipment.
  • Maintain tool inventories and communicate tooling needs to supervisors.
  • Ensure work areas remain organized, clean, and compliant with safety standards.
  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and all company safety policies.
  • Assist maintenance and production teams during equipment changeovers and downtime events.
  • Completely required production, maintenance, and inspection documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency and reducing waste.
