About the position

Trident Civil is now hiring for full time experienced pipe layers. Jobsites are in various Hampton Roads cities. The duties of Pipe Layer include but are not limited to the following items and physical requirements. Job Specific duties will include installing storm drain, water, and sewer mains with service connections, reading plans and coordinating for type of pipe and fittings, grade or depth of cover for pipe, and location of structures and service connections. Additionally, the role involves setting line and grade for gravity mains using pipe lasers, levels, and directing operators to maintain line and grade of trench for pipe installation. Other responsibilities include locating and installing fittings on pipe, installing precast bottoms and structures on mains, connecting pipe and fittings by various methods, maintaining egress and work area in trench, notifying supervisors of any changes in stability of trench walls or bottom, assisting in testing of installed pipe, and lifting heavy objects as required.

Responsibilities

  • Install storm drain, water, and sewer mains with service connections.
  • Read plans and coordinate for type of pipe and fittings.
  • Read plans and coordinate for grade or depth of cover for pipe.
  • Read plans and coordinate for location of structures and service connections.
  • Set line and grade for gravity mains using pipe lasers, levels, and/or means.
  • Direct operator to maintain line and grade of trench for pipe installation.
  • Locate and install fittings on pipe.
  • Install precast bottoms and structures on mains.
  • Connect pipe and fittings by slip (gasket), glue, mechanical, and ram neck (Butyl) joints.
  • Maintain egress and work area in trench.
  • Notify Superintendent, Foreman, or Operator of any changes in stability of trench walls or bottom.
  • Assist in testing of installed pipe.
  • Lift 50+ pounds and capability to push, pull, or carry heavy objects.
  • Prepare for work daily by setting out tools and equipment needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Return tools and equipment to their proper storage area at the end of each day.
  • Assist the crew in other activities if specific job skills are not needed that day.
  • Report any damaged or lost tools and equipment to the Superintendent or Foremen.

Requirements

  • Valid drivers license, preferred
  • 3 years experience installing storm drains and sewer mains
  • 3 years experience reading job plans/blueprints
  • 3 years experience working with trench boxes and various grading tools
  • 3 years experience laying concrete pipe and precasting
  • 3 years experience using a pipe laser
