About the position
Manage and supervise the operating of one or several types of power construction equipment to excavate, move and/or grade material. Plan and coordinate the efforts of the foremen and crewmen under his/her supervision and motivate them to accomplish the work safely, correctly and efficiently. Supervise other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision.
Responsibilities
- Perform all of the principal duties and accountabilities of workers under supervision.
- Lead and support all safety related processes and programs.
- Engage with the work team to ensure zero injuries.
- Lead, complete, and sign off on daily pre-job safety planning.
- Identify safety hazards and take corrective action.
- Ensure all crew members understand and participate in pre-job safety planning.
- Be proficient in scheduling, material control, unit man-hour performance, estimating fundamentals, and job cost management.
- Create and execute a 4 week schedule and monitor the foreman's one week schedule.
- Review and approve crew's timecards for correct hours and phase coding.
- Participate in incident investigations and report accidents.
- Understand and respond to all safety hazards and warning devices.
- Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Listen to employees and supervisor's suggestions and evaluate them.
- Coordinate and communicate work with other crafts and co-workers.
- Assure Foreman are providing on-the-job training to craft workers.
- Train/teach safety practices and ensure foremen do the same.
- Plan and communicate with supervisor to assure adequate supply of tools, materials, and equipment.
- Understand and periodically review project master schedule.
- Prepare and monitor the progress of the work.
- Gain a complete understanding of the scope of work and project plans.
- Delegate and communicate safety concerns, work scope, plans, budgeted man-hours, and schedules to the foremen.
- Monitor productivity rates and review with foremen.
- Prepare daily reports completely and accurately.
- Ensure employees produce quality work meeting requirements.
- Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with contract plans and specifications.
- Ensure construction equipment is correctly operated and maintained.
- Complete performance reviews for subordinates according to CPA Guidelines.
Requirements
- Experience working as a journeyman and supervisor heavy equipment operator.
- Strong working knowledge of the operating and rigging crafts.
- Working knowledge of the operating limitations and safe work practices associated with each piece of equipment.
- A copy of the executed Medical Examiner's Certificate must be on file before any operation begins.
- Commercial driver's license is required when the equipment will be operated on public roads.
- Must set standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality, and productivity.
- Must have leadership abilities and organizational skills.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements.
