About the position

As a Pilot Rotor Wing at Air Methods, you will play a crucial role in saving lives by operating helicopters for medical transport. This full-time position offers a 7/7 schedule, allowing you to ensure the safety and airworthiness of aircraft while adhering to strict federal regulations. Your expertise will directly impact the efficiency and safety of medical missions, making you a vital part of a life-saving team.

Responsibilities

  • Operates Air Methods aircraft in a safe and legal manner.
  • Completes pre-flight checks to verify aircraft airworthiness by signing off on the Daily Flight Log.
  • Performs a complete walk-around of the aircraft prior to entering the cockpit and after each flight.
  • Maintains final authority regarding aircraft operations and the safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment.
  • Familiarizes with all aircraft and medical systems of backup aircraft used in the operational area.
  • Ensures the medical flight team is comfortable with the medical interior and systems of the aircraft.
  • Completes required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Conducts detailed flight planning with minimal notice to exacting standards.
  • Participates in Air Methods meetings, activities, projects, committees, and community outreach.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and two to five years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Must maintain a weight not to exceed 250 pounds and be less than seventy (70) years old.
  • Pilots must have flown in category for a commercial operator or in the military within the previous 24 months.
  • 2,000 total flight hours with a minimum of 1,500 flight hours in category.
  • 1,000 hours PIC in category.
  • 500 hours of rotor wing turbine time.
  • 200 hours of cross-country flight time, with at least 50 hours at night.
  • 100 hours unaided night as PIC (50 hours of unaided can be substituted for by 100 hours of NVG time, but cannot be reduced below 50 hours of unaided time).
  • 50 hours total actual or hood instrument time in flight and in category (simulator time does not count).
  • Commercial & Instrument Rating (for category and class of aircraft).
  • ATP rating in category meets this requirement.
  • First OR Second Class FAA Medical certificate required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in emergency medical services (EMS) operations.
  • Strong communication skills for interaction with medical teams and hospitals.
  • Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations.
