About the position
This position is for an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Midwife) within the Federal system, specifically in locations such as Chinle, AZ, Kayenta, AZ, and Shiprock, NM. The role requires a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program, with specialties including but not limited to Midwifery. Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license as a professional nurse. The position involves providing care for mothers and babies throughout the maternity cycle, managing normal antepartum women, and performing various medical procedures related to childbirth. Responsibilities
- Provide care for a group of mothers and babies throughout the maternity cycle.
- Manage the care of normal antepartum women including teaching, counseling, and support.
- Take health history and perform obstetrical physical evaluations.
- Manage labor, including teaching and support.
- Perform procedures such as starting intravenous infusions and administering analgesia.
- Record labor and delivery details and complete birth certificates.
- Manage care of normal newborns including nutrition and activity.
- Independently manage normal spontaneous labor and vaginal delivery.
- Collaborate in the care of newborns, including resuscitation as needed.
- Teach and inform patients and family members to promote knowledgeable participation in their own care.
Requirements
- Graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program.
- Current, active, full, and unrestricted license as a professional nurse.
- For GS-09: Master's degree in professional nursing with a Midwifery specialty.
- For GS-11: PhD or equivalent doctoral degree or one year of professional nursing experience equivalent to GS-9.
- For GS-12: One year of professional nursing experience equivalent to GS-11.
