About the position

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Physician in their clinical specialty. This is an open continuous announcement that allows acceptance of applications throughout the year with eligible applicants being placed on the register and referred for consideration when vacancies occur. Positions will be located throughout the Southeast Region under the Indian Health Service. Positions located under the Albuquerque Area, Nashville Area and Oklahoma Areas.

Responsibilities

  • Provides consultative and/or direct medical services within their specialized areas to inpatients and/or outpatients health centers or hospitals.
  • Provides direct care/services to neo-natal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Serves on appropriate hospital committees as directed.
  • Takes history, performs physical examinations, orders appropriate laboratory and x-ray procedures, interprets and synthesizes clinical data, formulates therapeutic programs, conveys information to patients and their families, supports patients and families in times of illness, and maintains adequate records detailing patient care activities.
  • Determines when services of a specialist are required to treat unusual cases; makes necessary arrangements for admission of patients to the appropriate hospital.
  • Makes daily rounds to assure effective coordination of services and optimum patient care.
  • Conducts initial and periodic health examinations for making diagnoses, prescribes/implements treatments as required, and administers immunizations to patients.
  • Participates in Service Unit and Area meetings to develop, modify, and evaluate medical procedures relative to patient care.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Must have at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting.
  • Must meet the Basic and Minimum Qualifications stated in the job description.

  • Active Registrant of the Board in the Specialty to which the applicant is applying.
