About the position

The Physician Deputy Chief of Primary Care will oversee clinical and administrative functions within the Primary Care service at the Martinsburg, WV Medical Center. This role involves direct supervision of healthcare providers, ensuring quality patient care, and collaborating with community health providers. The position requires regular travel to Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) and includes responsibilities such as patient assessments, documentation, and participation in meetings and performance evaluations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial and ongoing assessments of patients' medical, physical, and psychosocial status.
  • Obtain and document comprehensive medical and psychological histories and physical examinations.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, formulating clinical impressions and care plans.
  • Refer patients to specialty care consultants as needed.
  • Provide medical advice to patients, families, and community health providers for care coordination.
  • Document patient care in compliance with Medical Staff By-laws and Medical Center Memorandums.
  • Collaborate with CBOC Nurse Managers in daily operations.
  • Attend Medical Center meetings and present performance data or clinical cases.
  • Supervise all physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants at CBOC duty stations, including performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.
  • Travel to CBOC sites for team meetings and educational efforts.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in a U.S. State or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Board Certified in either Internal or Family Medicine.
