About the position

The Physician Associate/Physician Assistant position is responsible for assisting physicians in providing quality patient care. This role involves performing office evaluations of new patients, determining treatment plans in conjunction with attending physicians, and providing follow-up care for previous patients. The Physician Assistant will also assist in surgeries at the Hospital and Ambulatory Surgery Center, perform pre-operative education, and provide routine post-operative care. Additionally, the position requires weekend coverage for hospital rounds and participation in daily rounds at the hospital. The Physician Assistant will prescribe medications, order lab work and diagnostic tests, and document patient care thoroughly. Completing hospital discharge summaries and billing patients according to established procedures are also essential duties.

Responsibilities

  • Perform office evaluation of new patients and determine treatment plans in conjunction with the attending physician.
  • Perform follow-up care for previous patients of the practice and treat appropriately.
  • Assist in surgery at the Hospital and Ambulatory Surgery Center.
  • Perform pre-operative education and routine post-operative care.
  • Provide weekend coverage for hospital rounds and participate in daily rounds at the hospital.
  • Prescribe legend and controlled substances.
  • Order appropriate lab work and diagnostic testing. Monitor, review and interpret results of tests.
  • Accurately and thoroughly document care given to patients.
  • Complete hospital discharge summaries and admitting history and physicals.
  • Bill patients according to established procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited physician assistant program.
  • Licensed Physician Assistant in the State of Illinois, certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and CPR certification.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in an Orthopedic setting, including clinic and surgical experience.
