About the position

The Physical Therapy Lead is responsible for the evaluation and administration of rehabilitative/habilitative techniques necessitated as a result of age, trauma, degenerative disease, congenital condition or sudden onset of pathology which requires development, maintenance, or restoration of function. May be required to care for a variety of diagnostic groups including, but not limited to, the following: orthopedic and arthritis related conditions; neurological groups including CVA, TBI, degenerative neurological diseases, SCI; and generalized weakness as a result of medical or surgical conditions. Physical Therapist is a qualified professional who directs, supervises, evaluates and provides physical therapy services to patients as prescribed by the attending Physician. The PT Lead supervises the Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) in a clinical treatment. The Physical Therapist Lead assists Management in the day-to-day operations of the Physical Therapy team.

Responsibilities

  • Administers appropriate informal and/or formal evaluation procedures for all patient populations served.
  • Understands referral procedure and gathers pertinent data including verification of physician order.
  • Determines appropriate assessment based on diagnosis, age, severity.
  • Collects objective information related to patients functional status.
  • Develops treatment plan, goals and objectives based on analysis of the assessment and professional observations.
  • Identifies and prioritizes functional limitations based on assessment findings.
  • Identifies realistic long-term and short-term goals described in functional or behavioral terms appropriate to the individual's needs, personal goals and expected outcomes.
  • Determines treatment techniques and activities needed to achieve goals.
  • Outlines the proposed intervention including frequency and duration.
  • Achieves an interdisciplinary team approach by consulting with team members, including patient/family, regarding treatment plan and delivery model.
  • Initiates discharge planning and recommendations for additional services to meet the needs of the patient.
  • Utilizes appropriate treatment methods based on functional needs of patient.
  • Adheres to appropriate and safe application of modalities, therapeutic exercises and activities.
  • Completes appropriate documentation and communication of all aspects of patient care including results of initial evaluation, plan of care, interventions, response to interventions, changes in status, reassessments, education and discharge.
  • Utilizes sound professional judgment based on knowledge, skill, education, training and experience.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with patients/families, co workers, other health care professionals and the community.
  • Participates in internal/external educational activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy required.
  • Master's Degree in Physical Therapy preferred.
  • 2-4 years experience working as a staff Physical Therapist required.
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of human growth and development; anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and kinesiology; current methods, techniques and purposes of physical therapy.
  • Requires strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates a high level of interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Abides by the standards of practice as outlined by state and national associations.
