About the position

The Physical Science Technician position at the Department of Agriculture's Delta Water Management Research Unit involves participating in various phases of the research process. The role includes performing technical duties in laboratory, field, or greenhouse environments, and is a term appointment lasting a minimum of 13 months, with the possibility of extension up to 4 years.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in one or more phases of the research process.
  • Keep detailed records of experimental data.
  • Perform routine and recurring techniques and studies using specialized equipment.
  • Collect and evaluate samples and maintain supporting records.
  • Prepare an inventory of biological or chemical samples.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National status is required.
  • Specialized experience for GS-05: One year of experience comparable to GS-04 related to the position, assisting higher-level technicians and operating basic scientific equipment in a laboratory setting.
  • Specialized experience for GS-06: One year of experience comparable to GS-05, including collecting and evaluating samples and maintaining specialized equipment in a laboratory setting.
  • Specialized experience for GS-07: One year of experience comparable to GS-06, participating in research projects and performing a full range of techniques using specialized equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in agricultural science, environmental science, or biology.
