About the position

The position requires candidates to upload a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) in English, along with documents from one of the specified options. Candidates must meet one of the following criteria: Option 1 includes having forty-eight (48) university, college, or vocational level hours with core subjects from an accredited institution, or an Associate's degree with an official transcript. Experience working with students or parents in approved settings is also acceptable. Option 2 is for current full-time Brownsville ISD employees with a valid Educational Aide Certification and a High School Diploma or GED, demonstrating knowledge and ability to assist in instruction. Option 3 is for recent Brownsville ISD high school graduates aged 18 or older, who have achieved a final grade of 70 or better in specified education and training courses. The role involves assisting teachers and students in various instructional and library-related tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assists teachers in selecting and scheduling materials for classroom instruction.
  • Provides instruction to students and teachers on locating and using materials and equipment.
  • Encourages student use of materials to satisfy class assignments.
  • Functions as a member of the teaching team by accepting one-on-one or small group teaching responsibilities.
  • Instructs students and teachers on the use of audio-visual and other apparatuses.
  • Assists in providing user guidance in reading, listening, and viewing.
  • Plans activities to stimulate student and teacher use of library materials and facilities.
  • Assists the librarian in planning with administrators, teachers, and students for effective use of library materials.
  • Uses a computerized circulation/catalog system for data entry and deletion of patron and resource files.
  • Checks in/out resources and assists with circulation and returns.
  • Maintains bulletin boards and other library displays, changing them often.
  • Monitors attendance in the library and keeps daily attendance records.
  • Prepares materials to be placed on reserve at teacher's request and maintains the reserve collection.
  • Collects and maintains records of student fines and prepares parent notifications as needed.
  • Assists in shelving books and materials and stores equipment as it is returned.
  • Assists with inventory and 'weeding' procedures.
  • Keeps administrative records and prepares required reports for the librarian.
  • Works with students to maintain an orderly atmosphere in the library.
  • Maintains an attractive library appearance and follows established safety procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality and a high level of ethical behavior.
