About the position

The Phlebotomy Trainee position at Quest Diagnostics is designed for individuals looking to develop the skills necessary to become a Patient Services Representative. This role involves hands-on training in specimen collection and patient interaction, with a focus on delivering quality patient care in a supportive environment. Trainees will work under supervision to learn the necessary procedures and protocols, with opportunities for career advancement within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers appropriately and treat all customers in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Ensure all field phlebotomy and PSC specimens are collected accurately and on time.
  • Practice specimen collection according to established procedures and legal requirements under supervision.
  • Complete requisitions accurately and call clients to confirm handwritten orders and verify test(s) ordered.
  • Research test/client information utilizing lab computer system or Directory of Service.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Package specimens for transport and maintain required records and documentation.
  • Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Maintain all appropriate PSC/Phlebotomy logs and assist with compilation of monthly statistics and data.
  • Perform basic clerical duties such as filing, faxing, and preparing mail, and perform electronic data entry.
  • Submit accurate time and travel logs as directed by management.
  • Demonstrate organizational commitment and adhere to departmental and company grooming and dress code guidelines.
  • Answer the telephone in a courteous and professional manner and communicate appropriately with clients, patients, coworkers, and the public.
  • Report unresolved problems immediately to the appropriate Manager, Supervisor, Group Lead, or PSR II for resolution.
  • Keep work area neat and clean, dispose of biohazard containers when scheduled, and help with inventories and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Experience in Customer Service
  • Keyboard/data entry application experience
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English
  • Demonstrates good organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Medical training helpful but not required
  • Medical terminology helpful but not required
