About the position

The Phlebotomist position at Riverway Clinic involves performing specimen collections and limited testing to assist in the treatment and diagnosis of diseases. The role requires adherence to clinical and governmental standards while preparing, analyzing, and documenting patient specimens across various laboratory departments. The position emphasizes quality, efficiency, and customer service in a clinical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and process biological specimens following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Perform limited testing analysis and verify assay/analyzer performance according to SOP.
  • Document and communicate lab test results thoroughly and accurately according to SOP.
  • Perform and document maintenance procedures and maintain adequate supplies.
  • Monitor and request lab supplies to ensure proper inventory and avoid interruption in service.
  • Demonstrate competency and comply with all regulatory agency policies.
  • Implement and adhere to laboratory customer service and patient experience standards.
  • Respond proactively to stressful circumstances, customer needs, and department/clinic changes.
  • Participate in continuing education, special projects, and community/corporate/professional organizations for professional development.
  • Assist in orientation and training of new personnel as assigned.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, including analyzing proficiency testing samples and performing quality control.
  • Prepare test orders and specimens for testing and/or transfer to reference laboratory.
  • Maintain proper use of standard precautions, protective barriers, and aseptic technique.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a phlebotomy program preferred.
  • One year of recent experience in an accredited laboratory preferred.
  • Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must possess speech, hearing, and sight skills to perform the functions of the position.
  • Manual dexterity is required.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English proficiently.
