This position supports the AM Swarm schedule, with working hours from 05:00 - 1:30 p.m. including alternating weekends and holidays. The role involves verifying positive patient identification, assessing patient reactions to specimen procurement, and performing Venipuncture and collecting other specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to established protocol. The phlebotomist will also obtain medical assistance when judged necessary, obtain specimens according to priority and scheduled draw times, and ensure completion of specimen collection functions according to protocol. Additionally, the role requires ensuring specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing, resolving specimen identification and/or requisition problems, clarifying requests, answering and screening telephone calls, and assisting with inventory and maintaining supplies and/or equipment. The phlebotomist will accept specimens from a variety of internal and external customers, receive and sort specimens, respond to additional specimen procurement requests, order and verify test requests, document appropriate information for quality assurance/improvement, review various pending and management reports, generate and distribute reports, and provide assistance in support of Billing and other business functions. The role also includes instructing employees and students in phlebotomy and data entry, and must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
