About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, this role procures, prepares, packages, distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients. The technician will maintain an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies, re-ordering and stocking items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability. They will maintain competency and follow departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products. The role involves properly operating, troubleshooting, monitoring, and cleaning departmental automation and equipment, and ensuring Pharmacist product verification and facilitating the timely and appropriate distribution of medications to maintain product integrity. Accurate record-keeping and patient profile maintenance, including charging and crediting, are essential. The technician will respond timely to customer needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests appropriately. Understanding and implementing appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks are crucial for ensuring timely and safe patient care. The role includes assisting with operational support functions, such as minor housekeeping activities and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards to maintain the work area. Regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including the examination of product integrity and expiration, will be conducted. The technician will maintain competency and follow departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines to safely and accurately handle, prepare, distribute, and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous products. Participation in professional activities and organizations is encouraged to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. All required training and competency assessments must be completed in a timely fashion, and attendance at educational in-services is expected. The role may involve assisting in the orientation and training of new personnel and serving as a resource for less experienced staff, providing technical information and guidance in pharmacy techniques and policies to ensure the delivery of efficient, quality service. Other duties may be assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program or enrollment in a professional-related school preferred.
  • 6 months experience as Pharmacy Technician or completion of ASHP-accredited tech training program preferred.
  • Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.
  • Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.
