About The Position

Responsible for compounding non-sterile pharmaceutical preparations under the supervision of the compounding pharmacist. This role requires close attention to detail to ensure standards for accuracy and potency are consistently met. The technician will compound medication, fill and label prescriptions, and pre-package bulk compounded medications. Additionally, the role involves monitoring inventory levels, receiving new inventory, maintaining MSDS and Certificates of Analysis, and performing regular cleaning. Environmental monitoring and validation testing are also key responsibilities. Technicians work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.

Requirements

  • Must be registered with the State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under time and volume constraints.
  • Proficient in using a computer and related equipment, including printers and fax machines.
  • Effective communication skills via telephone and email.
  • 20/20 vision (with or without corrective aids) required for visual inspection of drug products, in accordance with legal requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Compounding non-sterile pharmaceutical preparations.
  • Following applicable Standard Operating Procedures, especially concerning hormones and other potentially hazardous chemicals.
  • Compounding capsules, liquids, topical medications, nasal preparations, suppositories, troches, or tablet triturates.
  • Filling and labeling prescriptions.
  • Pre-packaging bulk compounded medications in anticipation of prescription orders.
  • Monitoring inventory levels for re-order of low inventory or expiring or expired chemicals or compounds.
  • Receiving new inventory.
  • Maintaining MSDS and Certificates of Analysis.
  • Performing daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning using appropriate disinfectants and techniques.
  • Familiarity with the location of MSDS and reviewing them as needed when working with hazardous or non-hazardous chemicals.
  • Performing environmental monitoring and validation testing according to policies and procedures.
  • Working under the supervision of a pharmacist.
