About the position

The Pharmacy Technician will assist the staff pharmacist in various pharmacy operations, including ordering, stocking, and dispensing medications. This role requires a strong understanding of pharmacy practices, safety principles, and the ability to effectively communicate with healthcare professionals and patients. The technician will also maintain pharmacy areas and ensure compliance with safety and sanitation guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the staff pharmacist in ordering, stocking, storing, and dispensing prescription and non-prescription medications.
  • Maintain pharmacy areas in a clean and orderly fashion consistent with departmental safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Assist the pharmacist in maintaining stock of up-to-date medications and checking for outdates per policy.
  • Assist the Pharmacist with maintaining stock of forms and updating medication records.
  • Prepare unit dose or pre-packaged medications as directed by the pharmacist.
  • Complete and maintain competency as indicated by the ability to complete the Pharmacy Competency Module.
  • Maintain the narcotics count and the needle and syringe inventories.
  • Re-stock adequate supplies for the 'Night Stock' cabinet and perform audits of the Automated Dispensing System.
  • Participate in Improving Organizational Performance Data and Quality Assurance Activities.

Requirements

  • Must have completed a formal Pharmacy Training Program.
  • At least 6 months of course credit and satisfactorily completed internship.
  • At least 1 year of Pharmacy Technician experience.
  • Hold a current CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of methods, techniques, and procedures to perform job activities on various types of medical equipment and automated systems.
  • Knowledge of safety principles and infection control in the patient care environment.
  • Ability to relate and deal effectively with Physicians, peers, and others.
  • Ability to recognize, report, and record changes in patient's physical and emotional condition.
  • Ability to administer medication.
