About The Position

Sanford Specialty Pharmacy is seeking a new team member with excellent customer service skills, a high attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to the evolving needs of the department. The ideal candidate can multitask across multiple systems and collaborate effectively with both pharmacy and clinic staff. This role involves preparing medications under the direction of a pharmacist, which may include measuring, mixing, counting, labeling, and recording medication dosages according to prescription orders. Responsibilities also include maintaining proper storage and security of medications, ensuring equipment functionality, managing inventory levels, and assisting with billing functions. The position may also involve contributing to departmental quality assurance and patient-focused services under supervisory guidance, while maintaining a safe working environment compliant with state laws and regulations. Proficiency in multiple computer programs is required. Depending on the work environment (retail/community pharmacy or medical center/institutional setting), duties may vary and could include compounding, preparing and dispensing prescriptions, unit dose dispensing, IV admixtures, and operating automated dispensing devices. The role requires understanding and following written policies and procedures, performing various functions under a registered pharmacist's supervision, and participating in departmental problem-solving. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to learn and utilize new technology.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or general education diploma (GED) required.
  • North Dakota: Pharmacy Technicians must register as a Pharmacy Technician or Technician in Training with the ND Board of Pharmacy, before beginning employment in the pharmacy.
  • Individuals applying as a pharmacy technician in training must enroll in Sanford provided (or equivalent) ASHP accredited education and obtain national certification (PTCB or NHA) within the timelines established by the North Dakota Board of Pharmacy to receive the Pharmacy Technician licensure.
  • Failure to obtain ASHP accredited education and National Certification before the board of pharmacy removes the technician in training license will result in termination of position.
  • Once active, the registration as a Pharmacy Technician remains valid as long as the individual maintains an active license with the North Dakota board of Pharmacy.

Nice To Haves

  • The Pharmacy Technician University (PTU) program is available for those who do not have their Pharmacy Technician License, allowing them to obtain a Tech-in-Training License and enroll in the program to become eligible for licensure.
  • The cost of the PTU program is covered by Sanford.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications under the direction of a pharmacist.
  • Measure, mix, count out, label, and record amounts and dosages of medications according to prescription orders.
  • Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs.
  • Ensure equipment is functioning properly and assist in resolution of equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Control inventory stock level and timeline to ensure adequate supplies.
  • Assist with billing related functions.
  • Assist with departmental quality assurance and other customer- or patient-focused services with oversight from supervisory staff.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of a safe working environment and conditions that adhere to state laws and regulations.
  • Requires use of and proficiency in multiple computer programs.
  • In a medical center or institutional setting, duties may include unit dose dispensing, IV admixtures, compounding and automated dispensing devices.
  • Assist the pharmacist in the provision of pharmaceutical care to the patients of Sanford by following established regulations, standards and practices (including the preparation of IV admixtures).
  • Understand written policies and procedures.
  • Perform various functions under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
  • Participate in departmental problem-solving when needed.
  • Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Learn and utilize new technology as the profession of pharmacy evolves.
