About the position

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is seeking Pharmacy Technicians (Patient Assistance Coordinators) to fill multiple positions under the direct supervision of the Department Business Administrator. The primary responsibility of this role is to coordinate the pharmacy's financial assistance programs, focusing on infusion drug assistance. The position requires special skills and knowledge not typically required of other pharmacy technicians. Responsibilities include researching data, working with outpatient clinic staff, connecting patients with appropriate assistance, processing applications, and ensuring patients receive the lowest out-of-pocket expenses possible. The Pharmacy Technician will also assist in day-to-day operations, patient outreach, medication delivery, and other facets of patient care, prioritizing work based on immediate needs and a rapidly changing workload.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on providing copay assistance and free drug to infusion patients.
  • Monitor work queues within the EPIC platform to identify patient needs for assistance.
  • Collaborate with other staff to expand efforts and organize workflow.
  • Work with manufacturer patient assistance programs and utilize platforms needed to apply for assistance.
  • Develop and maintain reporting metrics needed to track productivity for copay assistance.
  • Assist with adjudicating medication fills and refills.
  • Work with clinic staff and billing to obtain PAs and EOBs as necessary.
  • Perform basic pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Research patient data and previous fills.
  • Perform regularly scheduled and organized follow-ups with patients to ensure active and timely copay assistance.
  • Communicate professionally and efficiently with patients and other department staff.
  • Maintain appropriate records and paperwork, electronic and/or paper.
  • Deliver medication to employees/patients in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate in educating & training of students, residents, and new employees.

Requirements

  • Pharmacy technician license through the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy or eligible for AR licensure.
  • For Level II: Two years of pharmacy technician work experience.
  • For Level III: Three years of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or retail setting.
  • For Level IV: Four years of pharmacy technician experience or Bachelor's Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  • Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) issued by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) for Levels II, III, and IV.
  • Computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office and EMR experience) for Levels III and IV.

Nice-to-haves

  • B.S. or higher degree, business/accounting courses.
  • ASHP/ACPE accredited technician training.
  • At least 3 years relevant pharmacy technician experience.
  • Previous experience with 340B.
  • Specialized certificate or certification (i.e. PTCB Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician, ASHP Sterile Compounding Certificate, 340B Certification, etc.).
  • Strong math skills; excellent communication & organizational skills.
