About the position

The Pharmacy Technician - Long Term Care position at Southern Pharmacy Services involves entering and processing prescriptions accurately and efficiently within a fast-paced environment. The role is crucial in delivering customized medication management solutions to healthcare organizations serving seniors and individuals with complex care needs. The technician will work collaboratively with a dedicated team to ensure high-quality service and support for customers.

Responsibilities

  • Enter new and refill prescriptions into the operating system accurately and timely.
  • Triage incoming fax prescriptions to ensure timely dispensing.
  • Ensure proper notes in the computer and cycle fill coding.
  • Calculate and/or verify the correct dosage based on the prescription.
  • Demonstrate caring, understanding, and courtesy when responding to customer calls.
  • Route calls appropriately to ensure top-level service.
  • Complete all prescriptions assigned for processing during the regular shift.
  • Receive, evaluate, process, and follow up with doctors' offices on all refills assigned.
  • Develop proficiency in the utilization of all pharmacy systems.
  • Assist with filing of completed orders, packaging of medications, and inventory as needed.
  • Maintain data entry records for cycle medication and process cycle medication orders needing renewal.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (per state requirements).
  • Pharmacy Technician license/certification/registration (per state requirements); National Certification preferred (PTCB).
  • 2+ years of related experience (advanced degree may substitute for experience).
  • Advanced computer skills; pharmacy operations system experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver to deadlines.
  • Ability to solve problems with minimal direction.
  • Great attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in long-term care pharmacy services.
  • Knowledge of medication management solutions.
  • Familiarity with document imaging and legacy pharmacy computer operating systems.
