The Pharmacy Technician I position at Providence Hospital USA Health involves preparing and delivering medications under the supervision of a pharmacist. This entry-level role is essential for ensuring the efficient operation of the pharmacy department and maintaining high standards of patient care and safety.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver medications using various transport mechanisms under the direction of a pharmacist.
• Fill stat medication orders and prepare medication carts for distribution.
• Operate and maintain pharmacy equipment, reporting any malfunctions.
• Access the Hospital Information System (HIS) or Pharmacy Purchasing System using a PC.
• Restock work areas and fill appropriate carts/drawers, including emergency stock.
• Maintain current and adequate medication and supply levels.
• Utilize correct documentation tools and procedures for all pharmacy functions.
• Maintain accurate and complete records for all medications and controlled substances dispensed or received.
• Ensure cleanliness and orderliness of work areas, equipment, and supply areas.
• Adhere to Infection Control and Safety Standards and enforce compliance with hospital policies.
• Communicate effectively with physicians, patients, families, and healthcare team members, both in person and via telephone.
• Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance, working assigned shifts including overtime and call.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Registry with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy (ALBOP) as a Pharmacy Technician.
• Completion of an ALBOP approved hospital technician training course within six months of registration.
• Preferred experience in a pharmacy setting.
