The Pharmacy Intern 1 position at The Ohio State University involves performing routine tasks of event review and assigned project work under the direction of a medication safety pharmacist. Interns will collaborate with pharmacy and non-pharmacy staff members to complete assigned tasks in a timely and professional manner. They are expected to work both as part of a team and independently. Interns must participate in continuing educational opportunities to meet annual competency requirements and engage in training opportunities provided by the department to develop ongoing skills in various areas of the pharmacy. Compliance with all rules and regulations of the hospital and pharmacy department is mandatory, and interns must possess an Ohio Board of Pharmacy Intern license by the day of hire. Maintaining a current Ohio Board of Pharmacy intern license throughout employment is required to work as a Pharmacy Intern at the OSU Medical Center Department of Pharmacy. This position assists the medication safety pharmacist in providing a safe environment for patients, staff members, and visitors. Interns will review event reports to determine contributing factors to errors, assess the severity of harm to affected individuals, and propose solutions to prevent future errors. Under the guidance of the medication safety pharmacist, interns will assist with data collection, analysis, presentation, and discussion of various patient safety projects. Additionally, this role supports initiatives of the medication safety pharmacist and other preceptors, including regulatory compliance, policy maintenance, quality assurance, and auditing.
