About The Position

St. John's Regional Medical Center, founded in 1912, is a 265-bed, acute care, nonprofit hospital located in Oxnard, California. Serving over 85,000 patients annually, the hospital offers a full complement of services including emergency, heart, orthopedic, and cancer care. The Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for the procuring, manufacturing, compounding, dispensing, distributing, storing, and administration of drugs, biologicals, and chemicals according to standard practices, State and Federal laws and regulations, and Departmental policies and procedures. This role also involves providing drug information to other health professionals, patients, their families, and the public.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Current and valid California license to practice pharmacy (RG PHARMST)
  • Ability to exercise sound and professional judgement in the performance of the job functions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze complex tasks systems problems and design and implement the most effective solution.
  • Ability to work tactfully and effectively with team members the patient and their family and the public.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the practices principles methods and equipment utilized in providing Pharmaceutical services.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of acute care hospital pharmacy with experience in I.V admixture unit dose distribution pharmacokinetics dosing pharmacy intervention and medication usage evaluation
  • Bachelors of Pharmacy Degree
  • Ph D Degree

Responsibilities

  • Supervises technician staff and checks and validates their work; new orders, I.V. admixtures, patient medication bins, pre-packing, and other work necessitating the judgement of a pharmacist.
  • Enters, reviews, and/or validates computer order entry of physician orders and ensures appropriateness of drug therapy relative to the particular patient.
  • Completes, follows through, and documents all issues associated with job functions including stop order procedures, clinical consults, ADR reporting, M.U.E. (Medication Usage Evaluations), serum creatinine monitoring, and patient profile monitoring in a timely fashion and within the normal shift.
  • Prepares and/or validates I.V. admixtures including chemotherapy. Special solutions are completed in a timely manner and according to departmental procedures and pharmacy standards.
  • Fills, reviews and/or validates outpatient, discharge, and employee prescriptions in an appropriate time frame and follows all regulations governing such practice.
  • Provides appropriate and timely drug information to healthcare team members, patients and their families and the general public.
  • Completes dispensing and distribution functions in a timely and effective manner and within the normal shift.
  • Responds immediately in emergency situations and disasters.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned.
