About the position

The Personal Lines Underwriter at WestPac Insurance is a client-focused role dedicated to underwriting new and renewal business functions while providing exceptional service. Responsibilities

  • Master WestPac's personal lines products and their role in the insurance marketplace.
  • Assist brokers in underwriting new and renewal business within WestPac's personal lines division.
  • Independently market the personal lines division to our retail agent network and solicit submissions.
  • Educate retail agents on utilizing WestPac's online marketplace effectively for personal lines products.
  • Review quote queues and provide advisory support to retail agents in placing quotes.
  • Identify new carrier and product opportunities, aiding in the negotiation of contracts with marketing and senior leadership.
  • Underwrite and quote new business as well as renewals.
  • Handle endorsements, invoicing, servicing, policy issuance, and other workflow processes to support division growth.
  • Support brokers, account managers, and customer service representatives as needed.
  • Execute tasks on the agency management system proficiently, ensuring product excellence.
  • Maintain positive relationships with agency and carrier contacts.
  • Perform other functions as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years in the insurance industry with a focus on personal lines underwriting and marketing preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating professionalism in all interactions.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Willingness to travel for outbound marketing efforts, including after business hours.
  • Flexible and open to changes in processes and procedures.
  • Values a collaborative team environment and appreciates constructive feedback.
  • Active Property & Casualty (P&C) license; additional insurance-related designations preferred.
