Wing offers drone delivery as a safe, fast, and sustainable solution for last mile logistics. Consumer appetites for on-demand services are increasing, but current delivery methods are inefficient, costly, and contribute to road accidents and air pollution. Wing’s fleet of highly automated delivery drones can transport small packages directly from businesses to homes on-demand, in minutes. We design, build, and operate our aircraft, and offer drone delivery services on two continents. Our technology is designed to be easy to integrate into existing delivery and logistics networks, offering a scalable drone delivery solution for a broad range of businesses. Wing is a part of Google's parent company, Alphabet, and our mission is to create the preferred means of delivery for the planet. If you're ready to do the greatest work of your life, come join us. About the Program: Join Wing's 12-week paid summer internship! This is a hybrid, in-person program based in Palo Alto, CA, with start dates in May or June. Eligible candidates must be a current student enrolled in a degree program and intend to return to the program after the completion of the summer internship. About the Role: Wing is looking for a Perception Software Engineering Intern to join our Perception Team based in Palo Alto, CA. The Perception team designs and implements the computer vision and machine learning algorithms that allow our autonomous aircraft to understand the world around them and navigate obstacles safely. Our team members work closely with other engineers specializing in aerodynamics and propulsion, machine learning, and embedded software to build a robust and reliable perception system for drone delivery. The Perception team designs, implements, and supports the full stack of perception technology for our autonomous aircraft. This includes core computer vision and machine learning algorithms (like object detection, ML-based depth estimation, and stereo calibration) and the critical infrastructure that enables their development, validation, and performance. Our team works closely with engineers in embedded software, GNC (guidance, navigation, and control), motion planning, and simulation.

  • Design, implement, and validate perception algorithms for production drone delivery operations.
  • Analyze and benchmark the performance of perception algorithms, identifying bottlenecks, and proposing areas for improvement.
  • Work with large-scale datasets from our fleet to train, validate, and improve perception models.
  • Collaborate with full-time engineers to integrate your contributions into our production systems.
  • Present your project progress, findings, and results to the wider organization.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, graduating between December 2026 and August 2027
  • Strong examples of hands-on engineering and/or experience from prior work experience, university programs, internships, or student organizations
  • Proficiency in C++ and/or Python
  • Solid understanding of fundamental concepts in computer science (e.g., data structures, algorithms)
  • Coursework or project experience in at least one of the following: computer vision, machine learning, or robotics
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), familiarity with computer vision libraries (e.g., OpenCV), and/or hands-on experience with robotics projects (e.g., ROS) or working with real-time embedded devices
