About the position

The Per Diem Referrals Scheduler for Radiology is responsible for managing requests for imaging exams, ensuring pre-certification is obtained when necessary, and compiling pertinent medical history for Radiologist protocol review. The scheduler will maintain knowledge of patient preparation instructions based on the imaging modality and exam ordered, provide education and instruction to patients and their families, and screen patients for contraindications. Additionally, the role involves scheduling patients, coordinating imaging appointments outside of InterMed, answering incoming calls, requesting outside records, and utilizing electronic systems for scheduling and troubleshooting. The position also includes participating in the onboarding of new team members and performing additional duties as requested by management.

Responsibilities

  • Receives requests for imaging exams and acquires pre-certification if needed.
  • Obtains pertinent medical history/medical necessity and compiles for Radiologist protocol review.
  • Ensures orders are correct and communicates Radiologist recommended order changes to clinical teams.
  • Maintains knowledge of patient prep instructions based on Imaging modality and exam ordered.
  • Provides patients/family members with appropriate education and instruction.
  • Screens patients for contraindications.
  • Schedules patients.
  • Coordinates Imaging appointments for patients outside of InterMed when necessary and performs follow-up to ensure these exams are scheduled and completed.
  • Answers/triages incoming calls.
  • Requests outside records when needed.
  • Understands/utilizes all electronic and computer systems including basic troubleshooting.
  • Participates in the onboarding of new team members.
  • Performs additional duties as requested by management staff.

Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent required.
  • Prior medical office experience preferred.
  • Understanding of medical terminology preferred.
  • Excellent professional judgment, attention to detail, phone skills, and decision-making ability.
  • Professional appearance and approach.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work as a team member to accomplish shared objectives and goals.
  • Must be able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  • Forthright and clear communication skills.
  • Ability to interact well with Radiologist(s), Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, patients, patient family members, and co-workers.
