About the position

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) is primarily responsible for the performance of laboratory testing on patient samples for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. The CLS must ensure that all the equipment and instruments used to perform patient testing are maintained according to the manufacturer's specifications and that both the instruments and chemicals used must pass quality control testing before patient testing is allowed to proceed. The CLS must undergo regular competency tests to check his/her ability to perform highly complex testing and must continue to pass these competencies in order to maintain his/her ability to perform patient testing.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing on patient samples for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases.
• Ensure maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments according to manufacturer's specifications.
• Conduct quality control testing on instruments and chemicals before patient testing.
• Undergo regular competency tests to maintain ability to perform patient testing.

Requirements

• Knowledge necessary to obtain Clinical Laboratory Scientist license in the state of California.
• Current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.

Nice-to-haves

• Two years recent experience as a medical technologist in an acute care setting preferred.
• Ability to act as supervisor in absence of higher supervisor.
• Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms.
