People & Culture Business Partner

Valir HealthAlexandria, VA

About The Position

At Valir Health, people aren’t just our greatest asset — they’re the reason our mission moves forward every single day. As a People & Culture Business Partner, you’ll be the connective tissue between our P&C function and the teams we serve. You’ll show up as a trusted advisor, a skilled problem-solver, and a champion for a workplace where people feel seen, supported, and inspired to do their best work. This isn’t a behind-the-desk HR role. You’ll be embedded in the business — present, curious, and proactive. Whether you’re coaching a manager through a tough conversation, digging into turnover trends, or helping shape how we grow our teams, you’ll have real impact at an organization where purpose drives everything we do.

Requirements

  • Communicates with clarity and confidence — written and verbal — and knows how to adjust your style depending on whether you’re coaching a frontline supervisor or advising a senior leader.
  • Builds relationships naturally — people trust you quickly, and you take that trust seriously.
  • Stays organized and detail-oriented in an environment where a lot is always in motion — and never lets something important fall through the cracks.
  • Knows employment law well enough to apply it practically — not just cite it.
  • Is genuinely curious about the business — you want to understand how Valir works, what drives our teams, and how HR can make a measurable difference.
  • Manages time and competing priorities with ease — you meet deadlines, set expectations, and follow through.
  • Thinks analytically and solves problems creatively — you’re comfortable with data and even more comfortable turning it into a recommendation.
  • Is proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS platforms; experience with Paycom and/or 15Five is a plus.
  • At least 5 years of HR experience, including meaningful work in employee relations and serving as a true business partner to operational teams.
  • Broad HR knowledge across compensation, performance management, employee relations, organizational effectiveness, diversity & inclusion, and federal/state employment law.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP credential preferred — or the drive to earn one within your first year.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Paycom and/or 15Five is a plus.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP credential preferred — or the drive to earn one within your first year.

Responsibilities

  • Build genuine, trusted relationships with business unit leaders — becoming the partner they turn to first when people questions arise.
  • Stay embedded in your business units through regular touchpoints — so you’re never reacting to issues but anticipating and shaping solutions ahead of them.
  • Partner with leaders on workforce planning, organizational design, and succession — helping Valir build the teams we need today and tomorrow.
  • Use people data and trend analysis to tell a story — and then turn that story into actionable programs, policies, and recommendations.
  • Navigate complex employee relations matters with empathy and integrity — conducting thorough, fair investigations and helping leaders respond in ways that build trust, not erode it.
  • Stay sharp on employment law and regulatory requirements — protecting the organization and our people by keeping compliance current and practical.
  • Engage legal counsel when the stakes call for it — knowing when to partner up is a sign of good judgment, not a gap in expertise.
  • Be the go-to resource for policy interpretation — translating HR-speak into clear, consistent guidance that managers and employees can actually use.
  • Equip managers to lead with confidence — coaching them through feedback conversations, performance concerns, career development, and corrective action in ways that are honest, human, and effective.
  • Champion a culture of belonging and high performance — working alongside leaders and employees to strengthen relationships, lift morale, and create environments where people want to stay and grow.
  • Develop deep expertise in at least one HR domain — whether that’s compensation, performance, learning & development, or talent acquisition — and bring that expertise to bear across the teams you support.
  • Identify what your teams need to grow — and connect those needs to targeted learning solutions that make a real difference on the job.
  • Help design, deliver, and evaluate training programs — following through to ensure that what we teach actually sticks.
  • Welcome new employees into the Valir family through an orientation experience that leaves them energized, informed, and proud of where they chose to work.
  • Lean in wherever you’re needed — contributing to P&C team initiatives and organizational priorities as they evolve.
  • No direct reports — but your influence extends far beyond an org chart. You’ll serve as a coach and mentor to colleagues and actively invest in the development of the employees you partner with across the organization.
