About the position

Peer Health Educators are a highly valuable student position to the UAA community. They provide bystander intervention training for sexual assault/domestic violence prevention across campus. We are looking for high energy individuals that are excited to engage their fellow students in learning about healthy behaviors and lifestyles. Be part of a energized team! Peer Health Educators will work within the Student Health and Counseling Center and will develop presentation, group communication, planning, decision-making, and other leadership skills. This position is 5 hours per week with frequent evening and weekend programming.

Responsibilities

  • Provide bystander intervention training for sexual assault/domestic violence prevention.
  • Engage fellow students in learning about healthy behaviors and lifestyles.
  • Develop presentation and group communication skills.
  • Plan and make decisions related to health promotion activities.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills within the team.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled at the University of Alaska Anchorage with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment.
  • Have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA).
  • Have completed one semester at the University of Alaska Anchorage with at least 6 credit hours.
  • Health Promotion experience.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Mentoring experience.
  • Good verbal communication and pleasant interpersonal skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Dependable and able to demonstrate leadership.
  • Ability to work with diverse communities and work independently and as a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Interest in programming on primary prevention of sexual assault education.
  • Participation in previous university clubs and organizations.
