The Peer Advisor/Student Ambassador position at Northeast Lakeview College is a part-time, temporary role designed to support the college's mission of empowering diverse communities for success. This position is crucial in assisting college faculty and staff across various student services areas, providing essential support to prospective and new students. The Peer Advisor will play a key role in fostering a welcoming environment, encouraging students to engage with the college's resources and services. This role is particularly important as it helps bridge the gap for students who may be navigating the complexities of college life for the first time, especially those who are first-generation college students or those who may require additional support due to their backgrounds. In this role, the Peer Advisor will be responsible for referring students to the appropriate college service areas when necessary, ensuring that they receive the guidance and assistance they need to succeed. The position requires a commitment of up to 19 hours per week, allowing for flexibility while still providing meaningful support to the college community. The Peer Advisor will also have the opportunity to engage with a diverse student body, contributing to the college's efforts to promote economic and social mobility within the Greater San Antonio area. This position is not eligible for benefits and is funded through hard money, reflecting the college's commitment to providing valuable work experience to its students while also enhancing the support services available to the student population.

Responsibilities

  • Assist college faculty and staff in various student services areas.
  • Provide assistance and encouragement to prospective and new students.
  • Refer students to appropriate college service areas when necessary.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours at one of the Alamo Colleges or another accredited institution of higher education.
  • Some programs/positions may require an overall GPA of at least 2.75.
